Just when I thought I was clever enough to know "who dun it," Dame Christie fools me again! Five Little Pigs takes Hercule Poirot to the scene of a murder commited 16 years earlier - a crime that was tried, and the suspect found guilty. Poirot, in his typical, gutsy way, visits the six prime players to unearth the truth - a truth hidden deep in half-truths and covered by the fog of years. Christie's ability to give each character a distinctive voice, as seen in each players' narratives, is spot on. And the dynamic between Mr. and Mrs. Crale - the tumultuous love they share - is brilliantly woven through the recollections of the characters.

A story about great love, dedication, determination, and the wonder of nature, Where the Red Fern Grows touches on the things that make life beautiful. Rawls brings us a wonderful story that is great for both children and adults. In it our Lord God is as present as the flowing river current that unlies the story. A book I read as a child, and one that I am very glad to have repeated as an adult. Highly recommended.

Start Where You Are: Catch a Fresh Vision for Your Life by Charles R. Swindoll

An easy to read book about starting the Christian walk no matter how damaged you may be. The book largely focuses on the life of the apostle Paul and the struggles he faced while attempting the good work the Lord intended for him to accomplish. Swindoll's message about Christian victory was very positive; he recognizes that the walk is not always easy but it is entirely worthwhile.

A great book that strongly advocates the validity of the deity of Jesus Christ in a short n' sweet number of pages. The size of the book (179 pages) is, in my opinion, just right for introducing readers to Jesus Christ - who He is, His message, His death and resurrection, and His claim as the one and only Messiah. He also tackles with intelligence certain assertions or questions that come about from modern-day thinkers who doubt Christ's deity. While there are times I wish McDowell would have gone into greater specifics, it would have made for a much longer book, which I don't think is his purpose; he is good enough, however, to provide a list of his sources in the "notes" section, which is a great resource for those inquisitive minds who would like to learn more.
